On June 10 at 12:21 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 200 block of South Glebe Road in Arlington for a report of an assault with injury involving a weapon, police said.

Upon arrival, officers located the suspect inside a business and gave him verbal commands, which he ignored, police said.

As officers attempted to take him into custody, a struggle ensued, police said. Officers deployed a Taser and were able to take the suspect into custody, police said.

Investigation determined that, after purchasing merchandise, the suspect selected an additional item and consumed it without paying. Upon being confronted by an employee, the suspect allegedly grabbed him, brandished a hammer and swung it toward the victim, police said. The suspect then struck a glass display case with the hammer, causing it to break, police said.

The suspect – 44-year-old Brian Driver of no fixed address – was arrested and charged with attempted malicious wounding, robbery, obstruction of justice and destruction of property. He was held without bond.
