Bradley Walsh lifted the lid on the sweet tribute he makes to his late grandfather every time he steps foot onto the set of the family drama The Larkins. The actor told Jermaine Jenas and Lauren Laverne on The One Show about the importance of wearing a hat passed down in his family.

The actor who portrays Pop in the show opened up on his spiritual side while he was a guest on the BBC show.

Discussing the new series of the much-loved ITV hit, Jermaine Jenas asked: "Now Bradley, I hear when you're playing Pop you're always wearing something very personal to you?"

Bradley said: "Yeah, my grandfather's hat was bought just after the war or just before the war.

"My dad is called Danny, although my dad passed away in 1993, I always maintain that no matter who's passed on I always say they are here."

The entertainer sweetly said: "I always believe they are following you."

He also gave some insight to Jermaine and Lauren as to what his character Pop is up to in the new six-part series.

Bradley revealed: "Pop Larkin sells the big house Bluff Court and sells it at an extortionate rate, because they're city dwellers and they want to come out and live in the big manor house."

"He gets out and they (The Jerebohm family) realise they've bitten off more than they can chew, they want to get their own back.

"They think they've been swindled but they haven't. It all gets a bit nasty and there's a bit of resentment there."

Bradley has also given some insight into the new series in an interview with Express.co.uk and other press ahead of the second series.

The Jerobohms, featuring Pinkie (played by Morgana Robinson) will cause a stir and Bradley warned viewers of the new character.

He remarked: “She is very clever, she's very manipulative" and agreed with actor Morgana's assessment that she has a Cruella Deville quality to her.

He explained: “She’s very, very manipulative indeed and cohesive, I think for a while she totally fools Pop and that’s quite an interesting arc in the story itself.

“At the moment he thinks to himself, ‘Oh she’s very nice and attractive', he’s one for the girls, he loves the girls and they love him.

“He seems to think he’s going to sort of become a confidant or a good friend, so to speak, with Pinkie Jerebohm but that’s not quite the way it goes."

The first series of The Larkins portrayed the picturesque life of the family on a farm in Kent, set in the 1950s.

In the finale, The Larkin family adopted the troubled Oscar after his mother struggled to look after him.

However, new addition Pinkie looks set to ruffle plenty of feathers, which Morgana is embracing.

The comedy actor added: "She’s an absolute git under the veneer. She’s very charming and very elusive when you first meet her but the more you get to know her, the darker it gets.

“She’s an absolute rotter. It’s brilliant to play as an actress, I like playing the dark bits.”

The Larkins season two airs on October 16 on ITV.
