Detroit man sentenced to 7 years in jail for robbing a jewelry store USAO-WDPA | Department of Justice

ERIE, Pennsylvania-U.S. Attorney Cindy K. Chung announced today that a former resident of Detroit, Michigan has been sentenced to 84 months in federal court, convicted of Robbery under the Hobbes Act and ordered to pay 235,715 Compensation in U.S. dollars.

U.S. District Judge Susan Paradise Baxter sentenced 38-year-old Devon Ashley Edwards.

According to information submitted to the court, on or about November 19, 2018, Edwards and a co-defendant set off from Detroit, Michigan, with the sole purpose of robbing the Jared-Galleria jewelry store in Mill Creek. After entering the store, Edwards yelled everyone to come down, and then he and his co-defendant smashed the display case with a hammer and removed the jewelry.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Christian A. Trabold prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.

US Attorney Zhong praised the investigations of the FBI, the Pennsylvania State Police and the Mill Creek Police Department, and successfully prosecuted Edwards.
