The community is invited to join the NAACP as attention and awards are given to those individuals who show a positive image in the community. "These individuals exemplify the attributes associated with community involvement and support," officials said. "In addition, those individuals who volunteer their time and resources without pay to inform the community and are members of the local NAACP Branch are also recognized."

This year’s dinner event will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27 at the Chattanooga Convention Center.  The keynote speaker is Dr. Glenda Glover, president of Tennessee State University.  Dr. Glover is the immediate past president and CEO of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and she was recently appointed by President Biden as vice-chair of the President’s Board of Advisors on HBCU’s.

Mapp Award; Alvin and Tammy Williams - Ambassador Award; Erica Kelly - Educator of the Year; Sharon Green - Hannah Martin Spirit of Dedication Award; Sergeant Jason Holmes of Chattanooga Police Department, Captain Damien Vinson of Hamilton County Sheriff Department and Lieutenant David Sower of Hamilton County Sheriff Department - Chief Ralph Cochran Civil Service Award; Maronica Tibbs - Civic Engagement Award; Keith Monument - Business of the Year Award; Karitsa Mosley Jones - Political Action Award; Adam Cowan - Viola Mapp Award; Marquez Thompson & Chloie Marshall - ACT-SO Award; Janaria McIntosh - Community Activist Youth Award; Myles Robert Houston and Santana Etchison - Reggie White Award; and Gracelia Moore - President’s Award.

The 2021 award winners from the virtual event will receive recognition at the Oct. 27 event.
