A thrifty mother used her handy DIY skills and four Kmart footstools to transform an old dining table into an incredible fashion.

Tara Hosking from Macedonia, Victoria, said in a post on a popular Facebook group that she saw a similar table at a price of $5,000, so she decided to make a table herself instead of using what she already had in her home tool.

She said: "I only have basic tools, so it shows that only basic knowledge and a little vision and determination are needed to make beautiful things."

Convenient mom, Tara Hosking used four Kmart footstools and some basic tools to turn an old dining table into a very stylish piece of furniture.

Tara said that when she saw Kmart's ribbed storage ottoman, she knew she could use them as legs, so she started searching the Internet for a table of the shape and size she wanted.

After finding an old dining table on the Facebook market for $40, she started working, removing the legs of the table and extending the top with a piece of hardwood and some metal brackets.

For the herringbone top, Tara drew a pattern, cut Bunnings' plywood project board into pieces, and then glued the pieces to the table with liquid nails and nail guns.

In order to make the edges of the table smooth and round, she cut off the extra parts with a jigsaw, sanded the edges with sandpaper and glued them to some oak molding covers from Bunnings, which she wetted to bend them into shape.

Then Tara lightly sanded the entire top and painted a layer of off-white stains and varnish

Tara used four Kmart footstools for $19. She painted these footstools white as table legs and screwed some of the remaining wood cuts into the interior to provide additional support

She bought four Kmart's $19 ribbed storage ottomans and painted her legs with white paint.

Tara screwed some of the remaining wood cut pieces into the footrest to provide additional support.

Finally, she twisted the footstool together to form two legs, covered the joints with some thin aluminum flat strips that she painted gold, and then glued them to the table top.

The smart mother shared her work in a post that was posted to a popular Facebook group that received thousands of likes and hundreds of impressive comments.

Tara encourages others to test their DIY skills.

'Trust me, if I can do it, so can you. I'm far from an expert, but I'm just not afraid to try. With everything, my attitude is what could happen worse? She wrote.
